Saints do us no favors

December 20th, 2009 | by mike577 |

The Giants were supposed to be in position to tie the Cowboys if they win Monday night and be able to control their own destiny again.  Well, after the Cowboys wrecked the Saints’ undefeated season last night, they may have wrecked the Giants’ postseason hopes in the process.  Now the Cowboys sit at 9-5 while the Giants will need a win tomorrow to remain one game back with two to play.  That means that not only will we need to keep winning, we’ll need Dallas to lose at least one more time.  And the way they looked last night, I wouldn’t count on it.  This was not the same December swoon squad of the previous two weeks.  Tony Romo was on his game, and the Dallas D just smothered Drew Brees for about 55 minutes, hanging on to fight off a valiant Saints’ comeback.

Watching that game last night reminded me of watching our Giants play the Eagles–that is, nothing went the Saints’ way.  They dropped balls, Brees was intercepted once and could have been about three or four other times….he was also sacked four times, including the game-clincher by DeMarcus Ware with 12 seconds remaining.  Even after Nick Folk missed a chip shot field goal with 2 minutes remaining, Brees had no timeouts and couldn’t get the job done.

So now tomorrow’s game is about as must win as it gets.  I think the Giants can do it, but will it matter going forward?
