Feeling way more confident

December 17th, 2009 | by mike577 |

I’m not sure why, but my feelings have changed about the Giants’ playoff chances in the last 24 hours or so.  After the initial crappy feeling we all had after that devastating loss to the Eagles Sunday night, I wasn’t feeling any better looking ahead to Monday night against Washington.  But for some reason, I’m starting to have this feeling that the G-men will come out in attack mode and get the job done.

First of all, our offense has really been clicking….Eli Manning has been nothing short of spectacular in three of the last four games (we can’t count that Denver mess) and the running game has at least generated a push against Dallas and Philly.  Sure, Washington has an excellent defense, but I think we break through a bit.

As for the defense, well, they know they have work to do.  In a conference call yesterday, Justin Tuck said the line needs to generate way more pressure on the QB, to keep receivers from getting past their patchwork secondary and linebackers.  But he also admitted that he’s not sure why they are not generating that pressure.  The Giants have defended the run well against Dallas and Philly, and that’s great.  But they absolutely have to stop the big plays in the passing game.

QB Jason Campbell has been playing better for the Skins, but for whatever reason he always struggles against the Giants, and so does Washington’s offense in general.

Of course, a divsional game is always more intense and physical and close.  So the key will be to focus, execute and limit mistakes.  And I’m starting to feel like we will do that and come out on top.  Hopefully by then, Dallas will have lost to New Orleans as well, giving the Giants that much more incentive to win.
