And the fans react…

December 16th, 2009 | by mike577 |

I have been a Giants fan for more years than I care to admit (thanks Dad).  And so I have many friends and family members that are fans of Big Blue as well, and I decided to e-mail them all after that debacle on Sunday night to see if they were feeling as sick as I was.  Heck, it was far from a debacle offensively, but the fact that our once-proud defense gave up 45 points was inexcusable, especially in what was kind of a must-win situation.  Anyway, here are some of the comments…..

“I am a man of few words today regarding the Giants not seizing the opportunities given them last night.”

“Giants score 38 points–and lose?  The defense-oriented, ball controling, disciplined, turnover-avoiding Giants I always knew?  Not in my memory, and I have a long memory. I’m sure it’s happened, but not very darn often.”

“This one just made me nauseous at the end. It was like watching the football equivalent of multiple personality disorder.  The Giants were a tale of two teams; at times in the span of minutes and it got me so charged up and then even more deflated.  Pure football math will tell you that turnovers can decide a game, but even though they were down 14 early you could see they had plenty of fight. And that’s what pissed me off so much. It wasn’t like they were flat or out coached, they were just stupid and managed to give up big plays in every possible scenario.  Fumbles killed us. Special teams have up a TD. The DBs gave up a momentum turning big play and worst of all the defense, which had some life, gave up a huge 91 yard time eating late game drive.   They got some breaks too and didn’t capitalize. That just sucks. But you know what really got me?  It was after the D made a big play with Goffs pick, they gave it right back. The whole game, throughout all the madness I still believed they would find a way. But after that I just couldn’t take it. Dammit, they came all the way back and even had the lead. For about 48 seconds.  I don’t know what to say. Writing this makes me even sicker. They still have a shot, but at this point its probably too late to hope for anything more than a playoff win. I just don’t see them having the confidence to win out the season and win out the playoffs. But you never know, its a crazy league now and crazy things happen. 2007 anyone?”

“They didnt pound the ball with jacobs after they took the lead, and they had zero pass rush.  That’s how they gave this one away.”

“I never knew Andy Reid had the phsyical abilty to jump… at all.”

“Giants in big trouble.  Defense confusing to watch.”

And of course, this from my wife…..”I’m so mad that I wasted wearing a perfectly good Giants shirt on them yesterday.”

We are clearly a pissed off Big Blue Nation this week, because our team blew a huge opportunity to have a chance to win the NFC East.  That’s history now, and earning a wild card spot will require a few more wins and help.  Even then, how far will this atrocious defense take us?
