It’s time to stop talking and start doing

November 4th, 2009 | by mike577 |

For the last three weeks, we’ve been hearing the same thing from Giants players and coaches–that they need to stop making mistakes, need to start executing and need to step up their play in general.  Kind of sounds like a broken record after three straight losses that followed five straight wins to open the season, doesn’t it?  I can live with a broken record, but what I can’t live with is a lack of backing up what they’re saying.  It’s easy for me to sit here and say that, but when your team keeps making the same mistakes, I wish you would change some things so it doesn’t keep happening (I”m mostly talking to you, Bill Sheridan and Kevin Gilbride, as well as team leaders Eli Manning and Antonio Pierce).

Part of the problem is injuries, but an even bigger part of it is that there are suddenly so many things wrong that they can’t all be fixed at once.  Good thing the bye week is coming, but in the meantime, this team has to win Sunday against a very good Chargers team to stop the bleeding.  Then next month they need to figure out how to beat the Eagles, because they haven’t done that since the middle of last season (and needed a replay reversal and Andy Reid to abandon his stellar running game to do so).

But that brings up another issue….after beating up on patsies like the Chiefs, Bucs and Raiders, the Giants’ second half looks like this–Chargers, Falcons, at Broncos, Cowboys, Eagles, at Redskins, Panthers and at Vikings.  Right now, I see two winnable games there–at Washington and home against Carolina.  And if we’re lucky, the Vikings will have a #1 or #2 seed wrapped up by the finale and will rest Adrian Peterson, Brett Favre and Jared Allen.

What I’m saying is, this team needs to start playing like they say they can, and give us reason to believe.  Because right now, we’re losing faith fast.
