Giants lose to Pats in preseason finale
September 4th, 2009 | by mike577 |Well, let’s not get too worked up about last night’s 38-27 loss to New England. Yes, the G-men were up 21-0 and 24-7, but by the time the Pats came back in the fourth quarter, there weren’t too many names on either side of the ball we’d recognize. Ben Jarvis Green-Ellis rushed for 125 yards and 3 scores against us, but mostly against the third and fourth string.
The good? The passing game. Eli Manning was 3 of 3 for 76 yards and a TD and David Carr 6 of 6 for 153 yards and 2 TDs. Sinorice Moss caught two touchdowns, Mario Manningham caught 4 for 74 and Hakeem Nicks caught another long TD (64 yards) from Carr, but left the game with a hip injury (not deemed to be serious).
The bad? We just learned that DT Jay Alford is out for the season with that knee injury he suffered against the Bears two weeks ago. With some other dings on our vaunted front seven, this isn’t the kind of news Tom Coughlin and Bill Sheridan want to hear….and CB Terrell Thomas suffered a neck injury last night, but X-rays were negative and Thomas should be able to practice this week. And of course Nicks, which we will try to get more information on to relay to you this weekend.
But mostly, as with every preseason finale, the teams just want to get the 60 minutes overwith and begin to prepare for the games that matter. And now, more importantly for Coughlin and his coaching staff, the NFL wants the roster to be trimmed to 53 by Saturday evening…so expect several cuts over the next few hours and into tomorrow.
