Should we look at re-signing Toomer?
September 2nd, 2009 | by mike577 |Amani Toomer was a life-long Giant until he was released in the offseason, and later signed with the Kansas City Chiefs. Well, the Chiefs, who never really gave Toomer a chance to make the team, released the veteran received yesterday. And his release comes just days after the Giants’ receivers turned in a dismal performance against the Jets in which they dropped quite a few passes.
So while we know Jerry Reese wanted to look at making this Giants team younger at the position, would re-signing Toomer right now be such a bad thing? Steve Smith and Domenik Hixon are not #1 guys, and Hakeem Nicks and Ramses Barden may need more seasoning. Why not go bring back a guy with sure hands who has a knack for making big plays in big moments?
Just a thought. I realize Reese is probably not even entertaining the idea, but for the right (read: bargain) price, why wouldn’t he?
