Pierce could miss rest of season

antonio-pierceA day or two after Tom Coughlin was beaming about all of his players practicing for the first time this season and cracking a joke about, “well, we haven’t showered yet”…..shocking news hit the team hard about LB Antonio Pierce possibly missing the rest of the season.

Brandon Jacobs should run wild Sunday

Brandon JacobsIf you own Brandon Jacobs in your fantasy league, chances are you have been extremely disappointed.  The guy who was a consensus Top 10 draft pick and certainly RB1 has delivered zero 100 yard games and has just 2 rushing scores.  He even had to deflect criticism from Fox’s Tony Siragusa that he was tip-toeing at the line of scrimmage.  Yikes.

Getting healthy at the right time

When the Giants lost to the Chargers 11 days ago, the overwhelming consensus was that they played much better than they had in the three previous weeks in losing to New Orleans, Arizona, and Philadelphia, respectively.  One reason for that is that LB Michael Boley returned, as did DT Chris Canty.  This week, CB Aaron Ross is expected to return as well, fortifying a secondary that has been absolutely decimated by injuries and inconsistency.  In addition, other players who have been nursing injuries –including QB Eli Manning, TE Kevin Boss, RT Kareem McKenzie and DE Justin Tuck–have had an extra week to rest at just the right time of the season.

A little late for complaint

One of the funnier things to happen over the bye week was when Giants’ owner John Mara filed a complaint with the NFL  about the schedule–namely, that his team had to play on Thanksgiving night away from home.  And it wasn’t so much the being away from their families part for his team that Mara raised a fuss about, but the fact that they had to play a road game on short notice.

Day off Sunday treats G-men well

If you had told me that during the Giants’ bye week, their situation, and in particular, their playoff outlook would improve, almost drastically, I would have laughed.  But here we sit on Monday, the day after losses by Atlanta, Dallas and Philly have put the Giants right back in the thick of things.

Another writer puts things in perspective

I don’t always pay as much attention as I should to what everyone else is writing about the Giants, but I probably should.  And you should also pay attention to what Sports Illustrated’s Don Banks had to say, because it sure does make a lot of sense.

Red zone, green zone, zone of blues

Tom Coughlin refers to the red zone as the green zone, because his take on that is that red means stop and green means go.  Well, whatever you call it, the Giants have the blues when it comes to plays inside the 20 yard line.  And we’re not just talking on offense here.

So what do we really think about our chances now?

As Giants’ fans, we feel beat up after four straight defeats.  And really, after losing to the Eagles as bad as we did last Sunday, I thought the season was essentially over.  But after considering history and reality, it only made sense that the G-men would rebound against the Chargers and head into the bye week at 6-3 and in okay shape for the playoff run.

Call it like it is–the sky is now falling

Okay folks.  When the Giants lost two in a row, we knew we were in trouble.  Then when they lost to the Eagles badly in Philly last Sunday, major problems were exposed and the season was pretty much on the brink at 5-3 with a tough schedule remaining.  So naturally when we in the media began asking coach Coughlin about the game against the Chargers being must-win, he agreed, and he and his players were deeming this their “Super Bowl” because it was that much of a must-win.

Giants vs. Chargers preview

The Giants enter tomorrow’s home game against San Diego with something to prove.  They began the season 5-0 but have now dropped three straight games to New Orleans, Arizona and Philadelphia, respectively.  Everyone is saying the Giants’ soft schedule to start the season was the reason for the good start, and that they can’t beat the better teams.  Well, tomorrow they need to win to shut everyone up and make themselves feel good heading into they bye week.  Here is how we see it shaking out…
