Manning says his foot is fine

Giants’ QB Eli Manning has been dealing with a foot injury since Week 4 in Kansas City, and he has been telling us all along that it’s not an issue, that he’s fine, he feels fine, it’s not affecting his performance on the field.  And at times, we’ve had good reason to believe him, most notably last Sunday against the Falcons when Manning willed the G-men to victory with a career high 384 yards passing and 3 TDs.

After a day to reflect, not feeling much better

Tom CoughlinAfter feeling like we got punched in the stomach Thursday night after that Thanksgiving Day massacre in Denver, I read through some of the post-game comments from HC Tom Coughlin, C Shaun O’Hara and a few other players.  And my conclusion from that is that this team still believes, but they can’t figure out what has gone wrong or how to fix it.  They keep repeating that “we need to play better” mantra, but they have no more margin for error.

Lots of blame to go around the Thanksgiving table in 26-6 loss to Denver

This is going to go down as one of the most inept performances in Giants’ history, and that is just so hard to swallow when we’re watching what is supposed to be a playoff team and even Super Bowl contender.  A few weeks ago this team was a stout consensus #1 in everyones’  power rankings.  Now they are floundering in the bottom third of the NFL, and their defense is one of the worst in the NFL despite statistically being one of the best.  I think I speak for every Giants’ fan out there when I say my turkey was rumbling up in my belly last night watching that atrocity.  What’s worse, the Broncos had scored 37 points in their last four games and, when they didn’t shoot their own collective foot, moved the ball at will.  With Kyle Orton at QB no less.  Are you freaking kidding me?  Here is our awesomely bad recap…

Giants vs. Broncos preview

After two weeks off, we had a game Sunday followed by another one tomorrow night in Denver.  I’m really looking forward to watching our boys on Thanksgiving, but I’m nervous….both teams have struggled lately, especially on defense…so it might come down to turnovers and penalties.   Here is how we see it shaking out….

An interview with Bryan Douglass of Broncos Stable

The G-men next face the Denver Broncos on Turkey Day in the night game on NFL Network.  And as we’ve been doing each week, we have an interview with the opposing blogger, in this case one of the editors of Fanball.com, Mr. Bryan Douglass who runs BroncosStable.com.  Bryan is not particuarly confident about the Broncos’ chances, and I may not be either.  But he and I disagree on how many points the Giants will score.  Here are excerpts from our conversation:

In the end, a win is a win is a win

I’m sure I speak for every Giants’ fan out there when I say I’m just relieved that we won yesterday, a 34-31 overtime thriller against Atlanta.  Finally.  Hard to believe that it had been six weeks since we last had that feeling, but after a 5-0 start the G-men had regressed badly to the tune of four straight defeats, and they needed this win yesterday to stay alive in the playoff chase.  The run game was not clicking, but Eli Manning had a career day, and the defense played well enough at times despite failing to hold a two-touchdown lead late in the game.  Here is our recap, and as that old Mets’ broadcaster Bob Murphy used to say, the “happy recap”…..

Giants vs. Falcons preview

So after what seems like a month, the Giants will resume their 2009 season tomorrow at home against the Atlanta Falcons.  Things are probably a bit somber around Giants Stadium today, however, after the team learned LB Antonio Pierce will be out indefinitely with a bulging disc in his neck.  Still, the G-men should and need to take care of business tomorrow.  Here is how we see it……

Pierce could miss rest of season

antonio-pierceA day or two after Tom Coughlin was beaming about all of his players practicing for the first time this season and cracking a joke about, “well, we haven’t showered yet”…..shocking news hit the team hard about LB Antonio Pierce possibly missing the rest of the season.

Brandon Jacobs should run wild Sunday

Brandon JacobsIf you own Brandon Jacobs in your fantasy league, chances are you have been extremely disappointed.  The guy who was a consensus Top 10 draft pick and certainly RB1 has delivered zero 100 yard games and has just 2 rushing scores.  He even had to deflect criticism from Fox’s Tony Siragusa that he was tip-toeing at the line of scrimmage.  Yikes.

Getting healthy at the right time

When the Giants lost to the Chargers 11 days ago, the overwhelming consensus was that they played much better than they had in the three previous weeks in losing to New Orleans, Arizona, and Philadelphia, respectively.  One reason for that is that LB Michael Boley returned, as did DT Chris Canty.  This week, CB Aaron Ross is expected to return as well, fortifying a secondary that has been absolutely decimated by injuries and inconsistency.  In addition, other players who have been nursing injuries –including QB Eli Manning, TE Kevin Boss, RT Kareem McKenzie and DE Justin Tuck–have had an extra week to rest at just the right time of the season.
